Republic of korea Also known as South Korea is a country in East Asia. It covers the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The northern border is bordered by North Korea. Japan is located in the southeast, with the Sea of Japan and the Korean Channel blocked. In Korean, the name of the country is read as Daehan Minguk, shortly called Han Guk, meaning Korea. Sometimes it is called Namhan, meaning South Korea, and North Koreans call South Korea as Nam Choson, meaning South Choson.
