History, Language & Culture Saint Martin

Originally, Sint Maarten has the status of "The Land of the Island of Sint Maarten" (Island Territory of Sint Maarten) and is one of the five islands that make up the Netherlands Antilles. Later, on October 10, 2010, the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved. Sint Maarten became the direct autonomous country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

 

St Maarten's culture is a blend of Dutch, French, British and African cultural heritage, although St Maarten and French St Martin are separate countries. But has a similar history and legacy Today, schoolchildren on both sides are taught to speak three languages in Dutch, English and French.
